Winter Holiday Programme
The holiday programme kicked off with the ‘The Luthuli Museum Soccer Games’ which was successfully run last year and had much more success this year. The children from the Groutville area were invited to participate. The children were divided into teams and were asked to choose a name of country which they would want to represent. The teams consisted of five players each with the game taking five minute a side. Should either team fail to win within the given time the game would go to penalties to decide the winner. As the competition commenced the numbers had also increase proving the popularity of the sport. The atmosphere was electric with the crowds screaming and cheering on their favourite teams. The ultimate winner was Cameroon. On the presentation day all those who participated in the competition received medals. There were also trophies for best player of the day, highest goal scorer and the winning team received their winner’s trophies. The competition was run over seven days. The Education Department introduced a new competition; ‘The Luthuli Museum Olympics’. The children were divided into five teams and were asked to choose a name of country which they would want to represent. They had to compete in different races. Each race the teams were allocated points and the team which amassed the most points was the winners of the competition. The winner was Nigeria. The competition was run over two days.
